A new OLED gaming tablet from Red Magic puts liquid cooling on display

After multiple teasers, Red Magic has finally launched its new compact gaming tablet in the Chinese market. Dubbed the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, the device is built around the same idea that has made Red Magic phones stand out: high-end gaming hardware, aggressive cooling, and a design that does not try to hide what it is.

The tablet will not stay limited to China. Red Magic says the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro will launch globally as the Red Magic Astra 2 Gaming Tablet, with international pricing and availability set to be announced on July 17.

A small tablet with serious gaming hardware

The Gaming Tablet 5 Pro uses a 9.06-inch OLED display, which keeps it smaller than most mainstream tablets and easier to hold during longer gaming sessions. The screen is still very much the headline feature, offering a 2.4K resolution, a 185Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness.

Since it’s a gaming-focused tablet, touch response is a major focus, for which it uses a Synaptics S3930 touch solution. The company says it enables a 300Hz multi-touch sampling rate, up to 2,000Hz instantaneous touch response, and 1ms input latency. There is also a wet-touch algorithm to help keep controls responsive when fingers get sweaty. Power comes from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with Red Magic’s RedCore R4 gaming chip and Energy Cube 3.0 optimization system.

Cooling is the real showpiece

The company has brought active liquid cooling from its flagship gaming phones to the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro. The system is visible through the transparent rear panel, along with 11 RGB LEDs for customizable lighting.

The tablet also packs an 8,300mAh battery, 80W charging for the China version, reverse charging, and two USB-C ports. One port is positioned for horizontal gaming, so the charging cable is less likely to get in the way.

In China, the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro starts at 5,299 yuan, which converts to around $780 and comes in Black and Silver. Global buyers will know more about the Astra 2 version in July.
