American Pecans rise as a favourite among UAE chefs, as the new popular superfood

From chef-led menus to corporate catering, the versatile nut is emerging as a flavourful, nutritious staple beyond desserts, with demand steadily increasing as diners become more health-conscious.

Dubai, July 16 2026: In the UAE’s dynamic culinary landscape where food trends quickly evolve into full-fledged dining sensations, a new ingredient is steadily gaining traction. American pecans are emerging as a preferred choice among chefs and food service operators, who are increasingly incorporating pecan-based creations into menus. Valued for both their versatility and nutritional profile, pecans are moving beyond their traditional dessert associations to become a staple across a wide range of savoury and contemporary dishes.

The American pecan is, in culinary terms, an extraordinarily versatile ingredient. It has a naturally buttery, rich flavour that deepens with toasting. It holds its structure under heat, making it viable as a crust for fish and poultry. Ground to a meal, it functions as a gluten-free breadcrumb alternative. Whole or in pieces, it brings texture and flavour complexity to grain bowls, salads, and roasted vegetable dishes. As a butter, it spreads with the depth of a nut paste. As an oil, it carries the warm flavour notes of the whole nut into dressings and marinades.

Globally, major food chains are beginning to reflect this versatility. In September 2024, Starbucks launched a Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte as part of its autumn menu – a signal that the American pecan is finding its way into mainstream product development far beyond its traditional context.

In corporate catering, the same premium logic applies. Dubai’s B2B catering operations are finding that clients are asking sharper questions about ingredients than they were even five years ago. Nutrition transparency, provenance, and flavour quality have moved from nice-to-have to expected. The American pecan, with its Heart-Check certification, its documented nutritional profile, and its versatility across savoury and sweet applications, answers those questions cleanly.

Basil and Spice Catering, one of the UAE’s leading B2B catering operations serving executives, events, and large-scale institutional clients across the city – including healthcare, is equally deliberate in their use of American Pecans.

Yash Bhargava, Co-Founder, Basil and Spice Catering, Dubai, observed, “When we design nutritious salads and grain bowls for clients, we think carefully about every ingredient. American Pecans bring exactly what we’re looking for – healthy fats, fibre, and a flavour that genuinely enhances the dish. They elevate the plate. Our clients notice the difference.”

His observation aligns with how food service drives consumer adoption more broadly. Market analysts note that exposure through professional kitchens is one of the most reliable ways to build ingredient familiarity – a consumer who encounters American pecan-crusted salmon at a business lunch, or a pecan and grain salad at a corporate event, is far more likely to seek the ingredient out in retail. For a nut still building its presence in the UAE market, food service is not a niche channel but a strategic one.

The culinary compatibility of the American pecan with UAE tastes is also notable. Its warm, almost caramel-like flavour profile works naturally alongside ingredients common in both Arabic and South Asian cooking – cinnamon, cardamom, saffron, honey, pomegranate. A Za’atar and quinoa bowl topped with American pecans, or a warm grain salad with pecans and dried apricots, sits comfortably within a contemporary UAE menu without feeling imported or out of place.

“The food service sector in the UAE sets trends. When chefs here build a dish around American Pecans, consumers go home curious. They search for them. They try to recreate the experience. That journey from restaurant plate to home kitchen is exactly how ingredient categories grow”, said, Sumit Saran, Country Representative, American Pecans, UAE.

As UAE consumers continue to prioritise health, flavour, and ingredient quality, American pecans are well-positioned to transition from restaurant menus into everyday diets. For the growing health-conscious diners, the ingredient offers a compelling combination of taste, versatility, and nutritional value, making it not just a trend, but a potential new staple in modern UAE kitchens.
