The Indian rupee opened higher on Thursday after weak US retail sales and cooling US inflation made it more likely that the Federal Reserve will cut rates later this year. The South Asian currency was trading at 83.44 against the US dollar (22.735 against the UAE dirham) around 8am, up from 83.50 (22.75) in the previous session. Developers in Dubai on Wednesday said that they have very stringent anti-money laundering and combating financing of terrorism (AMLCFT) measures in place for the investors buying property in the emirate to ensure that no illegal money flows into their projects. Deyaar Development PJSC, a leading real estate developer and service provider in Dubai, on Wednesday reported a YoY increase in its Q1 2024 profits compared to the same period in 2023. Deyaar’s net profit before corporate tax for the three-month period ended March 31, 2024 increased to Dh77. 5 million — marking a significant 38 per cent increase from Dh56.4 million in the same period last year. An overwhelming majority of private sector employees in the UAE haven’t received a bonus in the recent past and don’t expect to this year, a poll has found. The poll conducted on Khaleej Times’ WhatsApp channel saw about 900 respondents say they received a bonus in the last 12 months, while over 600 expected to get one this year.
