International Team Observes Shapiro Steps in Ultracold Atomic Circuits for the First Time Florence (Italy), Kaiserslautern (Germany), Abu Dhabi (UAE) – Monday 15 December: In a major advance for quantum science, an international team of researchers has achieved the first-ever observation of Shapiro steps in ultracold atoms. This milestone offers a new window into quantum mechanics in real time and lays the groundwork for advanced quantum sensors and quantum simulation. The findings highlight how quantum effects at the microscopic level can influence and be harnessed in large-scale systems – an idea at the core of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics.…
The OnePlus Turbo series is now official, and the pitch is simple: longer play time, stronger performance, and a gaming-first experience at a lower price point than the brand’s flagships. The confirmation comes from Li Jie Louis, President of OnePlus China, who posted on Weibo after OnePlus’ 12th anniversary event. He framed Turbo as “scarily strong” in its class for performance, endurance, and gaming, and clarified this is a dedicated series, not one mystery phone. What you still can’t do today is make an informed buy decision. OnePlus has not shared an exact launch date (only “soon”), pricing, or where…
The Moto G Power 2026 has arrived for those of you who want a long-lasting new smartphone, but don’t have the budget to spring for the premium-priced OnePlus 15. This week, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which oversees Mars missions, shared the 100,000th image taken by HiRISE and posted it along with a selection of other Mars images snapped by the camera over the last two decades. You can see them in the post below. The remarkable images include everything from impact craters and sand dunes to ice deposits and even potential landing sites for future…
Ford has confirmed a significant shift for its iconic F-150 Lightning pickup. Its next generation won’t be a fully battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Instead, it will be an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) that pairs the electric motofrs of the outgoing generation with a gasoline engine to increase the total range. While the new EREV setup retains its electric propulsion system — electric motors still drive its wheels — the gasoline engine will act as an onboard generator, recharging the battery on the go. Altogether, the electric and combustion engine-powered powertrain will offer a driving range of over 700 miles. The change…
OpenAI seems to be exploring how ChatGPT could move beyond an app and toward an operating system. The direction suggests ChatGPT could become a central software layer for apps and services, rather than just another app you open and close. This ambition became clearer after OpenAI hired Glen Coates as its new Head of App Platform, to “help turn ChatGPT into an OS”. Joined @OpenAI to head up App Platform and help turn ChatGPT into an OS. Last successful attempt was iOS ~20 years ago, so .. should be a cakewalkThanks to @tobi for the opportunity of a lifetime, and…
Apple’s iPhone 17e, the purported successor to the iPhone 16e, could include magnetic wireless charging, or what the company calls MagSafe charging (via The Information). This could be a significant upgrade over the current iPhone 16e, which is limited to Qi wireless charging at 7.5W. The inclusion of MagSafe technology would not only enable faster wireless charging (likely at 20W or 25W), but also let buyers use a variety of accessories — like wallets, charging pucks, wireless power banks, phone stands, etc. — with the iPhone. iPhone 17e could leverage MagSafe’s pros It is worth noting that only the models…
