Festive Eid Treats: Dates and American Pecans Unite

World’s two great snack traditions come together this Eid: Dates and American pecans create a perfect festive pairing

DUBAI – May 25, 2025: As families across the UAE and the Arab world prepare to celebrate Eid with traditional sweets, gatherings, and gifting, a new festive food pairing is bringing together two great culinary traditions from different parts of the world — dates and American pecans.

Deeply woven into the culture of the Middle East, dates have long been at the heart of Eid celebrations, symbolising generosity, hospitality, and togetherness. From family majlis gatherings to elegant festive gift boxes, dates remain one of the most cherished foods during the festive season.

Now, American pecans are emerging as a natural companion to this regional favourite, offering a rich buttery crunch that perfectly complements the soft sweetness of dates. The pairing is increasingly being recognised as a delicious and more balanced way to enjoy festive snacking during Eid.

Food experts say the combination works not only because of its contrasting textures and flavours, but also because of its nutritional benefits. Dates provide natural sweetness and quick energy, while American pecans contain heart-healthy unsaturated fats and plant-based protein that help create a more satisfying snack experience.

Whether served at home gatherings, incorporated into desserts, or presented in premium Eid gifting boxes, the pairing reflects a growing consumer preference for festive foods that are both indulgent and mindful.

Sumit Saran, Country Representative, American Pecans, UAE, said:“Dates are an inseparable part of Eid celebrations across the UAE and the Arab world, and American pecans complement them beautifully in both flavour and nutrition. The buttery richness of the pecan balances the natural sweetness of dates perfectly, creating what we believe is one of the world’s great snack combinations for festive celebrations.”

The pairing also offers versatile possibilities for Eid entertaining. Stuffed Medjool dates with American pecans, date-and-pecan dessert platters, chocolate-coated date and pecan treats, and artisanal gifting hampers are becoming increasingly popular among consumers looking for elevated festive experiences.

Hospitality experts believe the combination fits naturally into the UAE’s evolving food culture, where traditional flavours are increasingly being paired with international ingredients to create contemporary festive offerings.

American pecans are the only major tree nut indigenous to North America and are internationally recognised for their rich flavour and nutritional qualities. Combined with dates — one of the Arab world’s most iconic foods — they create a festive pairing that bridges cultures while celebrating shared traditions of hospitality and generosity.

As Eid celebrations continue across the region, dates and American pecans may well become one of the season’s most memorable and meaningful snack combinations.
