Vietnam, Switzerland and Paris, Turkey, Russia and Bali feature among popular holiday choices; families account for 55% of travellers, with average holiday spending of AED 5,000 per person

Emerging destinations such as South Africa, Sri Lanka, Cyprus and Egypt gain traction among UAE travellers

29 October 2026; Dubai, UAE: The Far East has emerged as the most preferred region for UAE residents planning international holidays during the upcoming National Day break, accounting for 40% of travel interest, according to the latest travel insights from musafir.com. Europe follows with 35%, while CIS countries, Turkey and other destinations account for a further 25%, reflecting increasingly diverse holiday preferences.

Among individual destinations, Vietnam has seen a notable rise in popularity over the past two years, while Switzerland and Paris combinations, Turkey, Russia and Bali (Indonesia) arise as popular holiday choices. Families account for 55% of holiday travellers, couples 35% and solo travellers 10%, with average international holiday spending estimated at AED 5,000 per person.

Booking trends reveal that European holidays are typically planned six to eight weeks in advance, compared with four to six weeks for the Far East and approximately two weeks for CIS destinations. Travellers are also looking to combine the National Day break with longer winter holidays.

Raheesh Babu, Chief Operating Officer, musafir.com, said: “UAE travellers are increasingly seeking holidays that combine value, convenience and memorable experiences. The Far East is attracting strong interest for its cultural diversity and attractive packages, while CIS destinations remain popular for shorter getaways. Europe continues to hold a special appeal, especially for families who dream of experiencing snowfall, festive Christmas markets or the Northern Lights, experiences that often feature on their once-in-a-lifetime wish lists.

“Travellers heading to Europe during National Day have largely planned ahead, considering visa requirements. However, those considering winter holidays can still explore Europe, with musafir.com offering guaranteed Schengen visa appointments for eligible travellers and comprehensive visa assistance. Across destinations, our collaborations with leading international airlines, curated itineraries and end-to-end travel support help make journeys seamless and memorable.”

Far East leads with diverse holiday experiences

Vietnam’s popularity reflects growing demand for destinations combining natural beauty, culture and value. Thailand remains a family favourite, with Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket offering beaches, shopping and entertainment. Combined Malaysia–Singapore holidays provide two-country experiences, while Bali in Indonesia attracts travellers seeking tropical escapes and relaxation.

National Day packages from musafir.com include Vietnam (28 November–5 December) from AED 7,499, Bangkok–Pattaya from AED 3,999, Bangkok–Phuket from AED 4,599 and Singapore–Kuala Lumpur from AED 6,199.

Europe remains a favourite for winter holidays

From Switzerland’s snow-covered Alps and the Christmas markets of Eastern Europe to London’s festive attractions and the Northern Lights in Finland, Europe continues to attract families seeking memorable winter experiences. Multi-country itineraries and competitive airfares to selected destinations are adding to its appeal.

Holiday options include Eastern Europe (28 November–5 December) from AED 7,999, Switzerland–Paris from AED 9,299, Finland–Estonia from AED 12,599 and the UK from AED 9,899. musafir.com also provides guaranteed Schengen visa appointments for eligible travellers and visa assistance, with approvals subject to consular authorities.

CIS countries retain appeal for shorter getaways

Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan remain popular for shorter breaks, offering winter landscapes, cultural attractions and relatively convenient travel options. Visa accessibility for eligible nationalities further supports demand. Packages include Georgia (28 November–2 December) from AED 3,299 and Azerbaijan (2–6 December) from AED 3,599.

Emerging destinations gain attention

Beyond established favourites, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Cyprus and Egypt are attracting interest from travellers exploring new holiday experiences, from wildlife and scenic landscapes to tropical beaches, Mediterranean escapes and cultural heritage. National Day packages include South Africa from AED 9,299 and Cyprus from AED 5,299.

Rashida Zahid, Vice President – Operations, musafir.com, said: “Travellers today are looking for holidays that offer the right balance of value, comfort and memorable experiences. Our curated packages combine flights, accommodation, sightseeing and transfers, making holiday planning convenient and hassle-free. To provide greater financial flexibility, we offer Easy Payment Plans (EPP) through participating bank credit cards and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options through Tabby and Tamara, allowing eligible travellers to spread their holiday costs over manageable instalments. Our aim is to make international holidays more accessible, affordable and enjoyable for UAE families.”
