GTA 6 pre-orders open June 25 as Rockstar ramps up its launch campaign

Rockstar Games has finally revealed when players will be able to secure their copy of Grand Theft Auto 6. In a post published on X, the studio confirmed that GTA 6 pre-orders will open on June 25, giving fans their first official date after months of rumors and retailer leaks.

The announcement arrives just over four months before the game’s scheduled launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. So far, two trailers of the game have been released, giving us a glimpse at the protagonists Jason and Lucia and the modern-day Vice City setting.

The pre-order announcement has come as a major relief for GTA 6 fans, judging by reactions online. Since Rockstar delayed the game from 2025 to November 2026, some players have worried that another postponement could still be on the cards despite repeated reassurances from Take-Two. Opening pre-orders less than five months before launch is a positive sign that Rockstar is confident in its release plans and that GTA 6 is still on track for November 2026.

GTA 6 pre-orders are finally happening

Rockstar’s social media post did not include any additional details beyond the June 25 pre-order date, but the announcement marks an important milestone in the game’s rollout.

GTA 6 was originally planned for a 2025 release before Rockstar delayed it to November 2026. Since then, the company has steadily shared new information through trailers and screenshots while avoiding a lengthy marketing campaign.

The upcoming pre-order opening gives players their first opportunity to reserve a copy through official channels. More information about available editions and retailer offerings is expected to follow as pre-orders go live.

Rockstar’s marketing campaign is about to ramp up

The announcement also signals the beginning of the final stretch before launch. Rockstar has uploaded GTA 6’s official cover art and additional media assets to its website, giving fans, retailers, and media outlets fresh promotional material ahead of launch. We can also expect one or two new promotional trailers to drop before the November launch that go more into gameplay footage and the storyline.

Rockstar has also announced that GTA 5 owners on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can now upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions at no additional cost. The upgrade previously cost around $10 on consoles.

PC players using the legacy version of GTA 5 can also upgrade to the Enhanced edition for free. On consoles, claiming the upgrade is relatively simple. Players only need to sign in to their PlayStation or Xbox account, locate GTA 5 on the digital storefront, and redeem the current-generation version. PC players will need to follow Rockstar’s platform-specific instructions depending on where they own the game.
