In the era of absurdly pricey phones, Samsung Galaxy M47 lands as a pocket-friendly antidote

Smartphone pricing has been getting kind of ridiculous recently. More and more mid-range devices are nearing the entry-level flagship price range, while entry-level devices are basically competing with older, more powerful mid-range phones. But the Galaxy M47 arrives as a breath of fresh air

It arrives at a time when costs are jumping up, but the company has kept it accessible. It is launching in India at a starting price tag of Rs 22,999 (roughly $243), which includes a coupon offer. This model goes on sale via Amazon during the Prime Day sale from July 4.

What does it offer?

The Galaxy M47 sports a tall 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, stereo speakers, and a massive 6,000mAh battery pack under the hood. It also supports 45W wired fast charging, though the compatible charger is sold separately.

Powering this model is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC, which is a chip based on the 4nm process. It is coupled with up to 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Users can even expand the storage by up to 2TB via a microSD card slot.

Among the various features it offers, Samsung has designed this model to be gamer-friendly as it supports bypass charging. This basically lets you plug in the Galaxy M47 during gaming, which then routes the power directly to the processor rather than charging the battery. In other words, it helps reduce heat and prevent excessive battery drain during long gaming sessions.

The update promise is also great

The camera setup is led by a 50MP main camera with OIS, joined by an ultrawide and a macro camera. There is also a 12MP front camera, Nightography features, and 4K video support. This is a decent setup, but the real highlight is the long software support. Samsung is nearly matching its flagship-level software support with a promised 6 OS updates and 6 years of security updates.

The Galaxy M47 will go on sale in two color variants, namely Rogue Red and Blaze Blue. It will also offer handy features like Knox Vault and NFC support.
