Malabar Gold & Diamonds Launches “Med Access” Initiative to Provide Free Medicines for Low-Income Patients in the UAE

Malabar Gold & Diamonds, the responsible jeweller, has announced the launch of “Med Access,” a new healthcare initiative designed to provide free medicines to low-income individuals and families in the UAE. Rolled out in partnership with Dubai KMCC, the initiative reflects the brand’s continued commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.

Mr. Abdul Salam K.P, Vice Chairman of Malabar Group and Mr. Shamlal Ahamed, MD-International Operations at Malabar Gold & Diamonds, officially launched the Med Access Project as part of Malabar Group’s ESG initiatives, in partnership with Dubai KMCC. In attendance were Mr. Rashid Bin Aslam, Dubai KMCC Community Development Authority (CDA) Board Director; Mr. Ismail Eramala, Acting State President, Dubai KMCC; Mr. Nasar Mullakkal, Acting General Secretary, Dubai KMCC; Dr. Ijas Khader, Director, Al Shifa Medical Group.

Under the programme, Malabar Gold & Diamonds will set aside AED 100,000 annually to cover the cost of essential medicines for at least 200 beneficiaries. Preference will be extended to patients suffering from chronic illnesses, who often face the heaviest and most recurring financial burden when it comes to sustained medical care. By easing this burden, Med Access aims to ensure that health outcomes are not dictated by economic circumstance.
The initiative has been conceived as part of Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitments, which span Health, Hunger Eradication, Education, Women Empowerment, Housing and the Environment, across the markets in which the brand operates. It reinforces the company’s long-standing belief that business growth should walk hand in hand with social responsibility.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Shamlal Ahamed, Managing Director – International Operations, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, said: “At Malabar Gold & Diamonds, our vision has always extended beyond jewellery retail. It is about building meaningful, lasting relationships with the communities that have supported our growth. Med Access is born out of a simple but urgent realisation: access to medicine should never be a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Through our partnership with Dubai KMCC, we hope to ease the burden for families in need, with special focus on those managing chronic conditions that demand continuous care. This is our way of standing beside the people of the UAE, not just as a brand, but as a responsible member of this community.”

ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) initiatives have been the primary commitment of Malabar Group since its inception in 1993, with 5% of net profits set aside towards such initiatives in each country of operations. Med Access adds to Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ growing portfolio of social impact programmes. As part of the group’s Hunger Free World initiative, over 142,000 meals are distributed daily across 170 locations, including 3 schools in the African country of Zambia.

In India alone, the group has established 2,553 micro learning centres, enrolling more than 102,000 underprivileged children, many of whom transition into formal schooling. Additionally, Malabar Group has awarded more than 145,000 scholarships to female students, supporting their academic journey and empowering the next generation of women leaders.

The company also runs the “Grandma Home” project, providing accommodation for needy and destitute women. With several such initiatives already in place, the company’s long-term goal is to ensure its global success benefits local communities wherever it operates.
