Motorola’s most ambitious flagship yet wants to beat Samsung and Apple, but it costs even more

Motorola has just launched its most ambitious mainstream smartphone to date, the Signature 27. Motorola has adopted a fresh design for its latest flagship phone, which costs $1,599 and will be up for grabs in the coming months.

Let’s start with the display, which Motorola claims is the brightest screen on any smartphone, thanks to a peak brightness of 12,400 nits. It’s an Extreme AMOLED tandem display, the same tech Apple uses on its iPad Pro and the new OLED MacBook Pro.

What makes the Motorola Signature 27 stand out from other flagships?

Aside from the higher brightness, Motorola says the display also consumes less power while doubling the lifespan of a traditional AMOLED screen.

Powering the device is Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, while on the software side, the phone is promised seven years of Android OS updates.

Motorola says it has also packed an ArcticMesh cooling system into the phone, which relies on a diamond-infused thermal gel and a vapor chamber for improved heat dissipation. Bang & Olufsen tuned the speakers, and the phone offers dedicated sound modes, each tuned for different types of content.

Motorola also paid special attention to the build, using premium materials like ceramic and brushed aluminum, while also giving it military-grade durability under the MIL-STD-810H standard. The phone is also cleared for IP69 ingress protection.

There’s a 7,000mAh battery keeping the lights on, with support for 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Interestingly, it’s also the first non-Pixel smartphone to officially support the privacy-focused GrapheneOS, which is built atop the Android Open Source Project.

The star of the show, of course, is the camera hardware. Leading the charge is a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 910 main sensor with LOFIC technology, sitting alongside a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. On the front, there’s a 50-megapixel selfie camera that supports 4K video capture.

Can the Motorola Signature 27 justify its $1,599 price tag?

Where Motorola delivers the biggest smash hit is the telephoto camera, a periscope zoom unit with a 200-megapixel sensor that supports 3x optical zoom and a 100x Super Zoom mode.

There’s also an action sensor, which Motorola claims is the first of its kind on a smartphone, letting users capture motion shots without having to worry about blur and other artifacts.

At $1,599, this phone is going to go head-to-head against heavy hitters like the iPhone 18 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. But it’s worth noting that Motorola’s flagship is still a few hundred dollars pricier than its more established rivals.
