At the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair, the Jordanian content creator explores how reading strengthens imagination, critical thinking and digital storytelling

Sharjah, November 7, 2026

For Jordanian content creator Ahmad Aburob, reading is an important part of the creative process. Beyond providing knowledge, books introduce new perspectives, stimulate imagination and offer inspiration for digital storytelling. At a time when much of what people read and watch is consumed in seconds, he believes there is still a strong case for making time for books.

Speaking during his session, ‘Read First. Create After’, at the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2026), Aburob reflected on his relationship with reading and its influence on his approach to content creation.

From the page to the screen

For Aburob, the connection between reading and creativity begins with curiosity. Books introduce ideas and experiences beyond one’s immediate surroundings, allowing creators to question familiar perspectives, explore different subjects and develop original content rather than simply reproduce information.

He also spoke about the value of reading beyond the search for creative ideas, particularly how books on psychology and philosophy have influenced his understanding of human behaviour.

“I found that these fields were helping me more in understanding people and myself before anything else,” he said.

His observation highlighted how reading can deepen self-awareness and provide creators with a better understanding of the people and experiences they seek to portray.

Finding depth in a fast-moving digital world

The discussion also explored the place of books in an environment dominated by short videos, rapid scrolling and instant consumption.

While digital platforms make information readily accessible, reading offers an opportunity for sustained attention and reflection. For content creators, that distinction can be particularly valuable, encouraging critical thinking and helping them develop stories that go beyond familiar formats and immediate reactions.

Aburob’s reflections reinforced the idea that reading and digital creativity does not need to compete. Books can provide the knowledge, perspective and imagination that make digital storytelling more thoughtful and engaging.

His message to aspiring creators was that meaningful content begins with curiosity and the willingness to explore ideas beyond what appears on a screen.

Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority, the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2026) runs from November 4 to 15 at Expo Centre Sharjah under the theme ‘Made of Stories’, with the Sultanate of Oman as Guest of Honour. The fair brings together 3,212 publishers and exhibitors from 126 countries, showcasing more than 1.7 million titles. Its programme features 1,500 cultural, creative and artistic events, with 106 guests from 25 countries.
