The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could fix the Fold’s biggest problem, if these leaks are right

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide just leaked again, and this time the biggest takeaway isn’t the cameras or the color — it’s the shape. Two fresh leaks are painting a clearer picture of Samsung’s next book-style foldable, suggesting the company may finally be addressing one of the Galaxy Z Fold lineup’s longest-running complaints.

Sometimes wider really is better

The latest images show what appears to be a dummy unit of the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, this time in black. Earlier leaks showed the same model in white, while recent reports suggest the darker finish could launch as Graphite. At first glance, the phone doesn’t look dramatically different from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung seems to be sticking with its refined design language, including flat sides, a flat frame, a slim chassis, and the familiar vertically aligned pill-shaped camera module. The buttons and port placement also appear unchanged, with the power and volume keys on the right edge and a USB-C port at the bottom. The real story is the phone’s proportions.

Instead of the unusually narrow cover display that has defined Samsung’s Fold series for years, the dummy suggests a noticeably wider and slightly shorter design. Interestingly, the design also resembles both Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone and Huawei’s broader foldable approach, suggesting the industry may be converging on a similar form factor.

A Fold that looks a lot less foldable

Adding to the speculation, reliable tipster Ice Universe shared a render comparing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The comparison suggests the Fold 8’s cover display is only slightly wider than Samsung’s flagship slab phone. If that comparison holds up, Samsung could finally be delivering a Fold that doesn’t feel like a compromise when it’s closed — something many Fold users have wanted for years.

The leaked dummy also points to a dual-camera setup, with previous reports claiming it will include a 50-megapixel primary camera alongside a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor. We won’t have to wait much longer to find out how accurate these leaks are. Samsung is widely expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at its Unpacked event on July 22, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and Galaxy Watch 9.
