This Oppo phone has a wild 3D back, but its magnetic Bubble is the real party trick

Oppo has started rolling out the Reno 16 Pro globally, giving Europe its newest style-heavy, camera-focused Android phone with a few impressive numbers on the spec sheet.

The European model is listed in Germany and Austria in a single 12GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration. It costs €1,099, though Oppo is offering a launch discount that brings it down to €899 until July 31. Pre-orders are open now, with release set for July 3. Considering how the Reno lineup is considered the brand’s upper mid-range model, the price is nothing to scoff at. But Oppo isn’t raising the prices for nothing. It is pushing the Reno line closer to premium territory, with cameras, design, and creator-friendly extras doing most of the selling.

The camera setup is the main event

Despite the shiny new look, the Reno 16 Pro’s biggest spec is its 200MP main camera with OIS. It is joined by a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP telephoto portrait camera, while selfies are handled by a 50MP front camera with a wide 100-degree field of view. Oppo is also leaning hard into video and creator tools. The phone supports 4K video features, front-camera portrait video, AI Remix Collage, and Oppo Bubble support.

The last bit is what’s really fun. Oppo has released the Bubble as a standalone magnetic smart display accessory that can act as a rear-camera preview screen, remote shutter, and customizable mini display. In practice, it becomes a camera viewfinder, which lets you use the more powerful rear camera for selfies.

Small body packing a monstrous battery

The global Reno 16 Pro is not the same as the Chinese model. The European/global version uses a 6.32-inch OLED display with up to a 144Hz refresh rate, while the China model launched earlier with a larger 6.78-inch LTPO panel. So you’re getting a near flagship-level screen. This model also uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super platform, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Oppo is also including ColorOS 16, an AI-focused Snap Key, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.4, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and heavy-duty IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K dust and water resistance.

Battery capacity is another regional difference worth noting. The European Reno 16 Pro has a 6,000mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging, while the global variant has a larger 6,700mAh cell. Rather than fighting against the rising component costs and RAM shortage, Oppo seems to be riding it with high-end hardware to make the price tag more sensible. At this price, it will compete with a more powerful Xiaomi 17T Pro in the region, and other safer flagships. So to give it an edge, Oppo also wraps these hefty specs in a compact form factor and a cool new 3D back, which looks like a floating layer on the back.
