Threads is about to become a hub of podcast chatter

The Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads is about to launch a new feature called podcast previews, according to a Bloomberg report. The feature will enable creators to upload short clips of their podcast episodes to the platform (into the feed), enabling viewers and fans to engage with them.

This is not the first time the platform has launched a podcast-oriented feature. Most recently, Threads allowed creators to link a podcast show on their profile, which redirects viewers to Spotify, iHeart, or Apple Podcasts. The idea is simple: attracting more podcasters to Threads and creating a community around them.

Podcasters could turn Threads into a powerful listener funnel

While the platform gives creators a chance to interact with its ever-growing user base of over 400 million monthly active users, redirecting them to the podcast’s primary host platform, it could benefit from the time followers of the podcast spend scrolling around on Threads.

The head of Threads, Connoy Hayes, believes that podcasts are a “natural fit” for the platform, primarily because they spark opinions, generate recurring conversations, and build a loyal fan base that keeps returning to the platform to consume new content and discuss episodes.

The Meta has even begun hosting live podcast-related events, such as tapings attended by influencers who then post and discuss episodes on the platform. This move highlights a larger strategic shift for Threads, from ̉ an X (formerly Twitter) alternative to a home for ongoing cultural conversations.

The development shows how important podcast culture has become, not just for listeners seeking meaningful, knowledgeable content, but also for aggregators like Netflix and information-dissemination platforms like Threads.

If you regularly follow podcasts, it doesn’t matter what the topic is; adding podcast previews could simplify how you keep up with them. Instead of juggling between links, platforms, subreddit threads, and Discord invites, you could listen to podcast previews on Threads, check the reactions, and join discussions in one scrolling feed.

The success of the podcast previews feature will likely determine how far Meta pushes this strategy. If the addition spikes engagement by a significant margin, we could expect deeper tools for podcasters, including analytics, monetization tools, or tighter integration with live audio.

Most recently, Threads expanded its Communities feature by including over 200 communities.
