You can now try Spotify’s Prompted Playlist feature in the US and Canada

Spotify started testing a new AI-powered feature late last year that lets users create personalized playlists using text prompts. The Prompted Playlist feature was initially rolled out in beta to Spotify Premium subscribers in New Zealand. Now, it’s making its way to users in the US and Canada.

For those who missed the original announcement, the Prompted Playlist feature goes beyond the basic AI playlist creation option Spotify debuted back in 2024. It supports more complex prompts, allows users to refine generated playlists with follow-up inputs, and factors in listening history when creating playlists.

Spotify explains that the feature generates playlists using “real-time information about the world of music, including trends, charts, culture, and history,” along with the user’s entire listening history dating back to when they first joined the platform. Users can also choose to have the generated playlist update automatically on a daily or weekly basis to keep the recommendations fresh. Each track in the playlist will be accompanied by a short description explaining why it was included.

Create your first Prompted Playlist

Users in the US and Canada can now give the feature a go by opening the “Create” menu in Spotify, selecting the new “Prompted Playlist” option, and entering a prompt. To help users get started, Spotify will surface sample prompts on the home screen created by the company’s music editors and culture experts. Alternatively, users can select the “Ideas” option for inspiration. Users can also share generated playlists with friends, and Spotify will “tune it to their taste so everyone gets their own personalized version.”

The Prompted Playlist feature is still in beta and is limited to Spotify Premium subscribers in the US and Canada. It’s rolling out gradually starting today, and will reach all users by the end of the month. Spotify notes that “some aspects may evolve, with usage limits in place while we test and learn,” adding that the experience will continue to evolve based on user feedback.
