Apple could launch two new Apple Pencils next spring alongside the iPad Pro

Apple’s next iPad Pro refresh might not be the only hardware getting an upgrade. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing two new Apple Pencil models for launch next spring. The lineup is said to include a refreshed Apple Pencil Pro alongside an updated version of the more affordable USB-C Apple Pencil, with both expected to debut alongside the next-generation iPad Pro.

A refresh for both ends of the lineup

Gurman reports that Apple is internally developing two new styluses. The first, codenamed B582, will succeed the entry-level USB-C Apple Pencil introduced in 2023, while the second, known internally as B632, will be an updated version of the Apple Pencil Pro that debuted with the M4 iPad Pro in 2024. Apple has traditionally introduced new Apple Pencils alongside refreshed iPads, making the reported launch window line up with the next iPad Pro refresh.

While Gurman doesn’t reveal what new features either stylus will bring, he notes that Apple is currently working to comply with upcoming European Union regulations around making batteries easier to replace in consumer electronics. As a result, one possibility is that the new Apple Pencils could feature redesigned battery systems, addressing one of the biggest repairability criticisms of previous generations, which have relied heavily on glued-together construction.

Part of Apple’s busy 2027 roadmap

The new Apple Pencils are expected to arrive during what is shaping up to be a packed first half of 2027 for Apple. Gurman previously reported that the company is planning a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro and new iPad Pro models around the same time, following this year’s expected launches of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, refreshed Apple Watches, updated Macs, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

For now, Apple hasn’t officially confirmed any of these products. But if Gurman’s report proves accurate, next spring won’t just be about new iPads. Instead, it could also bring the first refresh to both ends of the Apple Pencil lineup in several years.
