Arise UAE Champions Resilience and Sustainability in Collaboration with UNDRR

Dubai, UAE, December 5, 2023 — Arise UAE, under the visionary leadership of Chairman Dr. Mahmoud AlBurai and Co-chairman Dr. Tariq Ahmed Nizami, spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative on December 5, 2023, at The Sustainable City, Dubai.

The event, held in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), focused on the critical theme, “Resilience in an era of uncertainty: partnership for a more sustainable world.”

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Arise UAE Co-chairman Dr. Tariq Ahmed Nizami, followed by opening remarks by Chairman Dr. Mahmoud AlBurai. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Sujit Mohanty, Chief of Branch-Intergovernmental Processes, Interagency Coordination, and Partnerships at UNDRR, Geneva. Dr. Mohanty’s insights set the stage for a panel discussion featuring distinguished participants, including Dr. Saood Quraan, Advisor at Dubai Resilience Centre; Mr. David Greenall, AriseGlobal Board member; Ms. Rima Nssair, Director at Provis; Mr. Keith Norman, Chief Sustainability Officer at LYTEN; and Don Iveson, Executive Advisor at Co-operators. The engaging discussion was moderated by Ms. Rania Hammad, UNDRR ROAS Programme Management Officer.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnerships in navigating the challenges posed by an uncertain global landscape. The esteemed panelists shared their perspectives on building resilience and fostering sustainability, emphasizing the role of innovation and cooperation in addressing complex issues.

The evening continued with the distribution of awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to resilience and sustainability. In recognition of his outstanding commitment to fostering resilience and sustainability, Co-chairman Dr. Tariq Ahmed Nizami was honored with a prestigious award at the event. Additionally, the event witnessed an impressive turnout with the participation of 70 individuals from diverse sectors, reflecting the widespread interest and engagement across various industries in the crucial theme of resilience and sustainability.

Closing remarks echoed the commitment of Arise UAE and its partners to continue championing initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient world.

The event concluded on a celebratory note with a networking dinner, providing a platform for further exchange of ideas and collaboration among the participants.
