Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could break your heart with “modest” cameras

Samsung is preparing to shake up the foldable market this July with the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, a new extra-wide variant of its flagship foldable expected to launch alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. But if you were hoping for top-tier camera specs on the wide foldable, you may want to temper your expectations.

No Ultra-tier main camera

According to a fresh leak from GalaxyClub and SamMobile, the Fold 8 Wide will feature a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 50MP f/1.9 ultrawide camera. While those numbers sound respectable, they’re not quite up there with Samsung’s Ultra flagship.

For context, the Fold 8 Wide’s main shooter matches that of the base Galaxy S26, not the S26 Ultra. Considering that the regular Fold 8 is expected to feature a 200MP primary camera, the same as Samsung’s Ultra flagship, the Wide’s primary camera is a notable step down.

The ultrawide is a different story, though. Both the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide are said to share the same ultrawide unit found in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, so the Wide isn’t cutting corners everywhere. Selfie cameras, however, may be unchanged, with both devices featuring two 10MP shooters, one on the cover screen and one inside.

Samsung’s Fold and Flip lineup lets users shoot selfies with the rear cameras using the cover display as the viewfinder. This will remain an option on the upcoming models, so the lack of selfie camera upgrades shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Smaller battery, lower price

The leak adds that the Fold 8 Wide will also trail the standard Fold 8 on battery, featuring a 4,800mAh unit compared to the Fold 8’s 5,000mAh pack. On the bright side, it’s still a step up from the Galaxy Z Fold 7‘s 4,400mAh battery.

Under the hood, both devices are expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. And the hero color for this year is said to be dark green, replacing the blue that took center stage in the Fold 7’s marketing.

Given the camera and battery tradeoffs, the Wide is expected to come in at a lower price than the standard Fold 8, though exact pricing details haven’t been revealed. More details should emerge as we draw closer to the launch, which will likely happen in July.
