The Witcher 4 will bring a massive visual boost thanks to Nvidia RTX Mega Geometry

CD Projekt Red’s next Witcher game is set to adopt one of Nvidia‘s newer ray tracing technologies, which will push the game’s visuals to new levels. A fresh report indicates that the game will feature Nvidia’s RTX Mega Geometry system, a technology designed to handle extremely complex scenes while maintaining performance.

According to VideoCardz, The Witcher 4 will use the technology to render dense environments with much higher levels of detail than traditional rendering methods.

What is Nvidia RTX Mega Geometry?

Nvidia’s RTX Mega Geometry aims to improve how ray-traced scenes handle large amounts of geometry. In simple terms, it allows a game to render far more objects and polygons in a scene without dramatically hurting performance.

In modern open-world games, environments often contain millions of individual objects, such as trees, rocks, and foliage. Ray tracing those elements can be extremely demanding for GPUs. RTX Mega Geometry helps solve this by improving how the system organizes and processes geometric data for ray tracing calculations.

The technology can significantly increase the complexity of a scene with higher efficiency. Reports suggest it can increase the polygon count several times over while also improving frame rates and reducing VRAM usage in some scenarios. In the case of The Witcher 4, Nvidia has demonstrated the technology with dense forests filled with highly detailed foliage.

What’s the latest on The Witcher 4?

Development on The Witcher 4 is well underway at CD Projekt Red, which is building the game using Unreal Engine 5 instead of the studio’s previous REDengine technology. The game is expected to be the first entry in a new Witcher trilogy. While a release date has not been confirmed yet, earlier statements from the developer suggest the game is unlikely to arrive before 2027.

By incorporating RTX Mega Geometry, the developer appears to be aiming for highly detailed open environments, especially when it comes to forests and natural landscapes. If the technology works as expected, it could help deliver one of the most visually appealing Witcher games yet.
