This OnePlus controller turns your phone into a handheld, if you can actually get it

OnePlus is going all in on mobile gaming again, and this time, it has released a controller to pair with its gaming smartphone. The company just built the Strix G15 controller, which is designed specifically for the new OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra. This is a snap-on attachment that wraps around the phone and turns it into a handheld console.

What’s so cool about this controller?

The Strix G15 controller directly connects via a USB-C port and encloses the phone entirely, which brings a console-style grip. But what’s really notable is the new physical shoulder triggers, secondary buttons, and ergonomic handles that make extended gaming sessions more comfortable. It also packs micro-switch buttons with a 1,000Hz polling rate and low latency.

With this accessory, the company is making gaming a bigger focus for the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra, which is a performance-first phone. And looking at the marketing material, competitive shooters appear to be a focus. OnePlus is still leaning into a hybrid control setup where your thumbs stay on the screen while your index fingers handle triggers and extra inputs. So those more comfortable with the screen input for aiming and movement can still have an easier time adjusting to the Strix G15.

Where it goes beyond a regular phone controller

The company’s new controller is a little different from your typical attachments, thanks to a few extras. There’s support for pass-through charging, so you can keep playing without worrying about battery drain. The design also includes space for attaching a cooling accessory, which is a big deal for sustained performance during long sessions. OnePlus even claims the controller includes a built-in antenna to help stabilize wireless connectivity during gameplay.

What’s the catch?

This controller is built primarily for the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra, despite what the telescopic design suggests. But the real kicker is that it’s currently limited to China. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed the global launch for either the Ace 6 Ultra or the Strix G15 controller. So you likely won’t get to try it out.
