Volkswagen is bringing back the electric ID.Buzz bus with some cool upgrades for 2027

Volkswagen skipped the 2026 model year for the ID.Buzz entirely, a move that raised eyebrows and triggered the predictable “is the electric bus dead?” conversation. Well, it isn’t dead after all. The automaker has officially confirmed the 2027 ID.Buzz.

It’s arriving with the kind of updates that suggest Volkswagen actually listened to what early owners and reviewers were saying. The headline addition is the Tourer 4Motion, a new trim that turns the electric bus into a legitimate electric camper.

What’s new in the 2027 ID.Buzz lineup?

The new trim is inspired by the European “Good Night Package,” and it brings a fold-out mattress with a dedicated platform, window blinds, front ventilation panels, and a stowable outdoor table and chairs.

Then there’s a new Overnight Mode that adjusts lighting, climate, and power management for sleeping inside. Other additions include a retractable tow hitch, second-row captain’s chairs, and electrochromic panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, and 20-inch dark graphite wheels.

Beyond the Tourer, the entire 2027 ID.Buzz lineup also gets a couple of meaningful upgrades. A NACS adapter is now included in the box, bringing Tesla Supercharger compatibility without the hassle of getting one separately. One pedal drive is now standard across all trims.

Cushion, Home Decor, Cup

The 2027 ID.Buzz gets plenty of software updates as well

Volkswagen’s updated ID.6 infotainment software is now available on the electric bus with a redesigned navigation interface. Its new features include myQ Connected Garage remote access, TravelAssist with assisted lane changes, and AirConsole gaming on the infotainment screen.

The company is also bundling in a one-year free trial of the In-Vehicle Premium subscription, which includes ChatGPT voice, 30,000+ radio stations, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. You only get two-tone color options, with a new Candy White over Cherry Red scheme.

What’s odd is that the company hasn’t announced the pricing and the range of the new electric bus. The 2025 ID.Buzz ranged from $60,000 to $70,000, and EPA-rated range sat at 234 miles for the RWD version and 231 miles for the AWD version. We’re not expecting any of the figures to change for the 2027 model, though.
