Xbox mode is landing on all Windows PCs, bringing a full-screen experience

To counter Linux’s growing dominance in handheld gaming devices, Microsoft showcased Xbox mode, a lighter, gaming-focused version of Windows. Last month, Microsoft pleasantly surprised Windows users by announcing that Xbox mode would also come to Windows PCs and laptops.

And that day is here. Xbox mode is finally rolling out to Windows 11 PCs, including laptops, desktops, and tablets. If you have ever wanted your PC to feel more like a console, this is the update you have been waiting for.

What makes Xbox mode so exciting?

Xbox mode is a full-screen, controller-optimized experience built for gaming. Think of it as a console-style launcher sitting on top of Windows 11. It brings your game library front and center, reduces background distractions, and lets you jump into your games without fumbling through the Windows interface.

You can browse and launch games using a controller, jump back to the Windows desktop whenever you need, and access all your games in one place, including the full Xbox Game Pass catalog and games from other PC storefronts.

Xbox mode is designed to give you a unified gaming experience across all your devices. It is not a replacement for Windows but another way to use your PC. If you prefer the openness and flexibility of PC gaming but want the simplicity of a console interface, Xbox mode gives you both.

How do you get Xbox mode on your PC?

The rollout is gradual, so not everyone will get it at the same time. To get it as soon as it hits your device, open Settings, head to Windows Update, and turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available.”

Once get the update, you can jump straight into Xbox mode from your PC. Microsoft says it will continue improving Xbox mode based on user feedback, so the experience will only get better from here.
